The Vietnamese national men’s football team departed for South Korea on Saturday morning, kicking off a training trip to prepare for the 2024 ASEAN Championship, formerly known as the AFF Championship.

The team departed for South Korea on flight VN 428, which took off from Hanoi at 00:50 am on Saturday, bound for Busan.

Upon arrival in Busan, the team will travel to their training base in Gyeongju City, Gyeongsangbuk Province.

The team is scheduled to play three practice matches against Ulsan Citizen from the K League 3 on November 27, and two K League 1 teams, Daegu FC on November 29 and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC on December 1.

After the training camp, reinforcements from Vietnam’s Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC will join the squad following their participation in the AFC Champions League Two on December 4.

The 2024 ASEAN Championship is set to kick off on December 8, with the final set for January 5, 2025. 

Vietnam are placed in Group B and will face Laos on December 9, Indonesia on December 15, the Philippines on December 18, and Myanmar on December 21.

Group A includes Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste.

During the group stage, each team will play two home and two away matches to determine the top two teams advancing to the semi-finals.

The semi-finals and finals will follow a two-legged knockout format.

Vietnam aim to reach the final at the tournament.
