Thua Thien-Hue in central Vietnam has urgently instructed 291,000 students across the province to stay home on Monday due to heavy rain and rapidly rising river levels.
Early on Monday morning, schools and teachers quickly asked parents not to send their children -- over 291,000 in total -- to school.
The Thua Thien-Hue People’s Committee has directed grassroots authorities to closely monitor flooding and remain ready to evacuate residents from high-risk areas.
Nearly 100 households have already been relocated from landslide-prone zones, as heavy rains fueled by a lingering cold front are expected to persist in the province until Thursday.

As of 5:00 am on Monday, the water level of the Huong River at the Kim Long station was recorded at 2.88 meters, while that of the Bo River at the Phu Oc station was at 3.65 meters.
Hue, the provincial capital city, has experienced heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, with average precipitation ranging between 500 and 800mm, According to the provincial hydro-meteorological station.
Some areas saw excessively heavy rainfall, including Bach Ma Mountain in Phu Loc District, which recorded 2,997mm.

It is forecast that river levels will continue to rise for the rest of Monday, with the flood peaks on both the Huong and Bo Rivers expected to reach or surpass the highest warning levels.
On Monday morning, many roads in Hue City were severely flooded.
Streets along the river, such as Phan Chu Trinh and Phan Dinh Phung, were inundated and impassable.

Several low-lying areas, including Hoang Lanh and To Huu Streets, were also submerged, forcing many motorcyclists to push their stalled vehicles through the water.
On the same morning, many residents in Hue rushed to move their cars to higher ground in anticipation of widespread flooding.
Earlier on Sunday evening, downpours had caused a house to collapse in A Luoi District, injuring two people.
