Puerto Rican singer and songwriter Luis Fonsi, who rose to fame worldwide with the 2017 hit song Despacito, has been confirmed as one of the artists to perform at a music festival in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang in July.
Fonsi, 40, will join other international and domestic artists at the 2018 Cocofest in the coastal city on July 6 and 7, according to the event’s official website.
The organizers have so far only confirmed the participation of Fonsi, keeping the names of other artists undisclosed.
The event, to take place at Cocobay Resort, will offer food, public culture games, workshop and many other entertainment activities to over 30,000 visitors, according to the organizers.
“Cocofest – the most electrifying music festival - has come back! As music is the focal point, Cocofest brings together top stars in Vietnam and in the world, forming a multi-colored and enthusiastic amusement space,” the introduction reads.
The music fest in Da Nang will be the Southeast Asia debut for Puerto Rican superstar.
Luis Fonsi, born Luis Alfonso Rodríguez López-Cepero, took the world’s music by storm with his Latin pop song Despacito in collaboration with fellow Puerto Rican artist Daddy Yankee, which won a total of four Latin Grammy Awards.
The music video had garnered 5.2 billion views on YouTube as of Friday, breaking the record for most-viewed video in history of the Google-owned website.
Despacito, translated into English as “Slowly,” also ranked the fifth best Latin song of all time by New York-based entertainment media brand Billboard last year.
Earlier last month, Luis Fonsi also informed about his world tour to many countries including Vietnam on his verified Instagram account.
