A large number of people exchanged old books, used bottles and plastic bags for green trees and other environment-friendly items at a festival for environmental protection in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday.
In response to the World Environment Day (June 5), the “Song Xanh” (Green Living) fair, an event meant for students, children, and locals to know more about sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle, was organized by the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment at Le Van Tam Park in District 1 yesterday.
The organizers set up more than 80 booths to motivate visitors to engage in several activities, including painting, book-tree swaps, quizzes, and biodegradable item making.
Participants, most of whom were students and children, formed long queues in front of the book-exchanging booths until midday.
They brought used items from their homes to swap for little pots of trees, vegetables, and other biodegradable products, such as canvas bags and paper straws.
At Sunday’s event, Nguyen Toan Thang, director of the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment, also kicked off the action month for the environment in the southern metropolis.
