The important role of women and their contributions in all areas, from politics, economics to society and family, was praised by Vietnamese Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan at the 23rd Global Summit of Women in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. Speaking at the event, themed “Women: Creating New Economies”, Doan said that many women have become successful leaders in many countries, international organizations, and economic entities. She said she highly appreciated the theme of the event, which was conducted in the context that many countries around the world are trying to restructure their economies to improve efficiency towards sustainable development. The vice president also briefed 1,100 delegates of the summit about Vietnam’s economic development achievements over the past years as well as its policies on promoting the role of women in all areas. Many women are now pioneers in doing business efficiently and have made great contributions to the country’s social and economic development, she said. In order to further promote the role of women, all countries should establish legal frameworks and policies to ensure gender equality, especially equal access to opportunities for both men and women. In addition, social organizations and foundations should increase support for women to remove all obstacles faced by women in their activities. Doan said she hoped that after the event, which was attended by about 1,100 delegates, state and government leaders will made further efforts towards creating more favorable conditions for women to develop themselves and make more contributions to the development of every country in the world.
