Vietnam wishes to learn from Singapore’s experience in preventing, detecting and handling corruption, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who is visiting the island country, has said. The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Deputy PM Phuc made the statement during his talks on Monday with officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Law, Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) and Public Service Commission. His four-day visit started on Sunday within the program of “Friends of Lee Kuan Yew," named for the late former Prime Minister of Singapore, who died on March 23.

During these talks, the two sides discussed effective measures to fight corruption as well as law building and enforcement.

Deputy PM Phuc highly valued Singapore for building, disseminating and enforcing laws, and for setting up an effective corruption control system that helps ensure the uprightness, effectiveness and efficiency of the administration apparatus.   He told his hosts that Vietnam wishes to learn from Singapore’s experience in anti-corruption and affirmed that Hanoi is determined to eliminate corruption to maintain political stability and economic growth.

He proposed that the Vietnamese and Singaporean administrative reform agencies proceed with signing a cooperation agreement in the near future. In addition to these talks, Deputy PM Phuc met Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister of National Security Teo Chee Hean, and paid tribute to the late Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. He also visited the Vietnamese Embassy, asking its staff to play a more active role in promoting the strategic partnership between the two countries.
