Vietnam and Brunei have agreed to improve their cooperation in multiple fields, as part of Vietnamese State President Tran Dai Quang’s official visit to Bandar Seri Begawan, scheduled for August 26 to 28, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

The Vietnamese head of state joined talks with Bruneian Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah on Saturday, who both expressed their satisfaction with the Brunei-Vietnam cooperation.

The leaders pledged to enhance the two nations’ relationship for the sake of the two peoples, striving for US$500 million worth of bilateral trade turnover by 2025.

They welcomed the signing of several documents between Vietnamese and Bruneian agencies and businesses and consented to expedite the conclusion of other agreements.

Sultan Bolkiah praised the effective coordination between PetroVietnam and PetroleumBrunei in the field of oil and gas, encouraging Vietnamese businesses to further invest in Brunei.

Regarding regional and international issues, the two parities reiterated the significance of preserving peace, stability, security, and safety in the East Vietnam Sea.

They agreed on the amicable settlement of disputes and collaboration with relevant parties in realizing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and establishing a Code of Conduct (COC) for the maritime area.

President Quang and a delegation of elite Vietnamese officials paid a visit to Brunei LNG Corporation on the afternoon of the same day, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

The Vietnamese leader congratulated the firm on its achievements and was impressed by its large-scale operations and measures to minimize negative impacts on the environment.

He asserted that Hanoi always provides favorable conditions for PetroVietnam to develop cooperation with such leading foreign counterparts as Brunei LNG.
