Vietnam always attaches importance to enhancing the traditional friendship and sound cooperation with Cambodia, Party chief and State President Nguyen Phu Trong told King Norodom Sihamoni in Hanoi on Wednesday.
The host and guest held talks within the framework of King Sihamoni’s vacation trip to Vietnam from December 19 to 21, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
General Secretary Trong congratulated the Cambodian people on the achievements they have made under the judicious reign of King Sihamoni and the leadership of the Senate, National Assembly, and government.
He expressed his delight at meeting the Cambodian king, a close friend of the Vietnamese people, stressing that the king’s ongoing leisure tour showed his special sentiments to Vietnam.
On the occasion, the Party chief extended his best wishes to Queen Mother Monineath Sihanouk, and invited the king and queen mother to make a state visit or a leisure tour to Vietnam at a convenient time.
Replying to his host, King Sihamoni praised the continuous development of Vietnam-Cambodia ties in the past five decades, adding that the two countries have enjoyed good cooperation in all fields as well as at regional and international forums, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The king affirmed that he will continue exerting efforts to foster the solidarity, friendship, and sustainable cooperation between the two nations.
As part of his visit, King Sihamoni visited the President Ho Chi Minh relic site at the Presidential Palace.
He is also scheduled to have a leisure stay in the central city of Da Nang.
