Vietnam’s Party Central Committee began the ninth plenum in Hanoi on Tuesday morning, during which focus will be directed on personnel planning.

The sitting, expected to last until Thursday, is chaired by General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

During the session, delegates are expected to discuss the personnel planning of the Party Central Committee for the 2021-26 tenure, and conduct a vote of confidence on members of the Politburo and Secretariat.

They will give comments on a review report on the leadership and instruction of the Politburo and Secretariat in 2018.

The Party Central Committee will also consider and take disciplinary measures against officials in accordance with the Party’s regulations.

Speaking at the opening session, General Secretary Trong stressed that the agenda and duration of this session are short, but the issues debated and decided during the gathering are very important.

He asked participants to have thorough discussions, adding that a resolution will be issued at the end of the session.

The Party Central Committee previously convened its eighth plenum in the capital from October 2 to 6, which was attended by a total of 223 delegates.
