There have been positive developments in the defense relationship between Vietnam and the Philippines across the board, particularly in high-ranking delegation exchange, dialogue and consultation mechanisms, and naval cooperation, according to the Vietnamese minister of defense.
Minister Ngo Xuan Lich hosted an official reception for Filipino Secretary of National Defense Delfin N. Lorenzana, who is on a visit to Vietnam from Sunday to Wednesday, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense in Hanoi on Monday.
The Vietnamese minister and his Philippine counterpart joined talks, conferring on world, regional, and national affairs following the welcome ceremony.
The two officials also assessed the defense ties between their two countries.
Vietnam and the Philippines have seen their defense relations develop in a positive manner in all fields, especially in high-ranking delegation exchange, dialogue and consultation mechanisms, naval cooperation, training, information exchange, and defense policy dialogue, among others since 2010, the two top military officials said.
Both also agreed to further improve bilateral defense ties, maintain meetings, exchange, consultations, approve of their countries’ ideas at multilateral forums, and support Vietnam in organizing defense activities and conferences in 2020.
The two sides would boost cooperation in new spheres like young officer exchange, defense industry, non-traditional security, air force, and military medicine, among others.
