Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc arrived in Tokyo on Tuesday morning, commencing his trip to attend the enthronement ceremony of Japanese Emperor Naruhito.
PM Phuc was welcomed by representatives of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam at Narita International Airport.
The premier was accompanied by Minister and Chairman of the Government’s Office Mai Tien Dung, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung, and his assistant Bui Huy Tung.
He attended the enthronement ceremony of Japanese Emperor Naruhito on the afternoon of the same day.
Crown Prince Naruhito ascended to the throne as the 126th Emperor of Japan on May 1, starting the Reiwa era.

More than 400 guests who are heads of states and senior leaders of more than 190 countries and international organizations were in attendance at the enthronement ceremony.
PM Phuc’s attendance at Emperor Naruhito’s enthronement ceremony demonstrates Vietnam’s respect for the extensive strategic partnership with Japan, the Vietnam News Agency said.
Japan is a leading economic partner, the biggest ODA supplier, the second biggest investor, and the fourth largest trade partner of Vietnam, according to the state media.
During his trip, which is scheduled for October 22 and 23, the Vietnamese head of government is also set to have several bilateral meetings.
