Vietnamese foreign ministry has new spokesperson

Pham Thu Hang, deputy head of the Press Information Department and deputy spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been promoted to acting head of the department and official spokesperson of the ministry.

The ministry organized a ceremony to hand over the promotion decision to the new spokesperson on Thursday.

As per the decision, Hang becomes the fifth female spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Her predecessor is Le Thi Thu Hang, who serves as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Acting head Pham Thu Hang has worked for the Press Information Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for many years. 

She has held multiple posts and has many years of experience in working with local and international press agents.

Between 2017 and 2020, Pham Thu Hang also served as political counselor for the Vietnamese Embassy in the United States.

Four previous female spokespersons of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs include Ho The Lan, spouse of former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan; Phan Thuy Thanh; Nguyen Phuong Nga, who is holding the post of chairwoman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations; and Le Thi Thu Hang.
