Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni hosted an official welcome ceremony for Vietnamese State President To Lam at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh on Friday afternoon.

The top Vietnamese official is paying a state visit to Cambodia from Friday through Saturday at the invitation of the King. 

The state president and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation received a warm welcome by thousands of Cambodian residents in Phnom Penh on their way to the Royal Palace, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

The two top Vietnamese and Cambodian officials held talks following the welcome ceremony.

This is President Lam’s first state visit to the neighboring country since he took office last month.

His trip to Cambodia carries significant meaning, marking another milestone to further consolidate and deepen the close ties between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Speaking to the Vietnam News Agency in Phnom Penh, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sok Sophea stressed that it is an honor for Cambodia to welcome President Lam on his state visit.

“The state visit by the Vietnamese state leader holds great significance, demonstrating and reaffirming the highest level of close relations between the two countries,” the senior Cambodian official added.
