Vietnam and Cambodia will not let hostile forces use territories of one country to sabotage the other, while preventing such forces from distorting or dividing their countries’ friendship.

Vietnamese State President To Lam and President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and President of the Cambodian Senate Samdech Techo Hun Sen made the pledge at their talks in Phnom Penh on Friday.

Their meeting was part of Lam’s two-day state visit to Cambodia starting on the same day at the invitation of Cambodian King Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni.

President Lam expressed his pleasure at paying a state visit to Cambodia for the first time in his new position and at meeting again with Hun Sen, a long standing close friend of the leaders and people of Vietnam.

Lam highly appreciated Hun Sen’s precious contribution to and key role in the maintenance and development of the friendly neighborliness and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

The host highly valued his guest’s first state visit to Cambodia as the State leader of Vietnam, considering the trip a promotion to the countries’ friendship and close-knit ties.

The two leaders reviewed and treasured the cooperative achievements that the two nations have achieved in recent times, agreeing that the peace, stability and development of either countries also benefit the other.

They vowed to develop security and defense cooperation more comprehensively and deeply, while being steadfast to the principle of not allowing any hostile force to use one country’s territory to sabotage the other.

Lam and Hun Sen also expressed their determination to prevent hostile forces from distorting or dividing the Vietnam-Cambodia traditional friendship and solidarity.

They expressed appreciation for the help, solidarity, attachment and sacrifice the two countries have offered to each other during their struggles for liberation in the past as well as their national building and development today, affirming that this is an undeniable truth.

Hun Sen highlighted Vietnam’s support and sacrifice that helped Cambodia get rid of the Pol Pot genocidal regime and revive.

The host and guest agreed to actively implement the high-level agreements and results of the high-level meetings between the two parties in order to further beef up the bilateral relations in the coming time.

The two leaders also agreed to effectively promote the mechanism of the annual conference of the ministers of public security and home affairs of Cambodia - Laos - Vietnam, the meeting of the defense ministers of the three countries, and the joint exercise of these countries in response to non-traditional security challenges.

The two countries will step up meetings and interactions between all-level leaders and via all channels, especially between young leaders and youths of the countries, as well as young leaders of the Cambodia - Laos - Vietnam Development Triangle Area, the two leaders agreed.

They underscored the need to bring into play the mechanisms of the joint committee for economic, cultural, scientific and technical cooperation, and the cooperation and development conference of border provinces.

Hun Sen emphasized the importance of cooperation in human resource development and suggested that Vietnam continue to support Cambodia in this field.

In response to Lam’s invitation, Hun Sen affirmed that he will pay a visit to Vietnam in the near future and the specific date for the trip will be arranged via diplomatic channels.
