Passengers ride Ho Chi Minh City metro line No. 1 on its official inauguration date, March 9, 2025.

Metro line No. 1 passengers can now experience the convenience and speed of paying for tickets with Visa cards through ticket counters and the HCMC Metro HURC app, the company said in a press release on Monday.

Visa will soon announce the availability of Visa card acceptance at metro stations, further enhancing seamless, convenient, and secure payment experiences for commuters.

The initiative eliminates the need for cash or physical tickets, streamlining the boarding process and reducing wait times.

"Visa is thrilled to celebrate the launch of Ho Chi Minh City metro line No. 1,” said Dung Dang, Visa country manager for Vietnam and Laos.

“We are proud to bring our global expertise in digital payments and sustainable transit to Vietnam, and are working diligently to enhance the commuting experience with additional convenient, secure, and environmentally friendly payment options.

“Visa is committed to supporting Ho Chi Minh City's journey toward a smarter, greener future.”

On Sunday, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee held an inauguration ceremony for metro line No. 1, the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien route, following two months of official operation.

The line is the city’s first urban railway, spanning 19.7 kilometers with 14 stations – three underground and 11 elevated – connecting downtown District 1 with the eastern areas of Binh Thanh District and Thu Duc City.

Each train has a maximum capacity of 930 passengers, including 147 seats and 783 standing spots, generating an average daily revenue of over VND1 billion (US$39,173).

The line was officially launched on December 22, 2024, with a 30-day free trial period.

Ticket fares were then introduced, ranging from VND6,000 ($0.24) to VND20,000 ($0.78) per trip, depending on the travel distance.
