Vietnam to hold state funeral for Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

Vietnam to hold state funeral for Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong passed away at 1:38 pm on July 19, 2024 in Hanoi.

Vietnam will hold a two-day state funeral on July 25 and 26, 2024 for General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, who passed away at 1:38 pm on July 19, 2024 in Hanoi at the age of 80.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will be laid in state at the National Funeral Hall at No.5 Tran Thanh Tong Street in Hanoi, according to the Vietnam News Agency

The respect-paying ceremony for Party General Secretary Trong will be held at the National Funeral Hall from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm on July 25 and from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm on July 26.

It will be followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm on July 26.

A burial service for the Party chief will take place from 3:00 pm on the same day at Mai Dich Cemetery in Hanoi.

At the same time, respect-paying and memorial ceremonies for the Party leader will also be held at the Reunification Hall in Ho Chi Minh City and his hometown – Dong Hoi Commune, Dong Anh District, Hanoi.

National broadcaster Vietnam Television (VTV) and national radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) will broadcast live these ceremonies in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

During the two-day state funeral, all national flags at governmental offices and public places will be flown at half-mast.

All recreational and entertainment activities will also be suspended during the event.
