Vietnam snatched its 43^rd gold medal during Monday’s competitions, returning to the second place position on the tally, only behind Thailand who reaffirmed its top post with 59 golds.

The Vietnamese swimmers on Monday concluded their journey at the event in flying colors with 5 golds, 6 silvers, and 2 bronzes.

Nguyen Thi Anh Vien is the most excellent athlete as she bagged 3 golds, 2 silvers, 1 bronzes and smashed two SEA Games records.

Vietnam took home seven more golds on Monday, with the medalists being swimmers Anh Vien and Hoang Quy Phuoc, marathon runner Pham Thi Binh, rower dual Le Thi An – Tran Thi Sam, archer Nguyen Tien Cuong, archer dual Dao Trong Kien – Loc Thi Dao, and the cycling team who wheeled to gold at the men’s 100km team time trial event.

In the men’s football event, Indonesia beat host Myanmar 1-0 at the last match of Group B to win the ticket to follow Thailand into the semifinals. In the meantime, the substitute squad of Thailand held Camboida in a goalless draw.

Athletics

At Wunna Theikdi Stadium, Singapore’s Ying Ren Mok rand across the finish line in 2 hours 28 minutes and 36 seconds Early Monday to take home the men’s marathon gold medal at the 27th SEA Games.

Myanmar’s Thaung Aye won the silver, finishing a little less than 2 minutes after Ying, and Eric Panique (PHI) crossed the line just 40 seconds after Thaung Aye.

The women’s marathon once again saw a host runner winning silver. Myint Myint Aye (MYA) finished just 31 seconds behind gold medalist Thi Binh Pham (VIE).

The Vietnamese marathoner ran 2:45:34, Myint Myint Aye ran 2:46:07. The bronze medal also went to Myanmar, Pa Pa finishing in 2:49:01.

In the athletics stadium on the second day of competition, Panwat Gimsrang (THA) threw the hammer 56.94m to win gold in the women’s hammer throw. Renee Kelly Lee Casier (MAS) won silver with a 53.12m toss and Mingkamon Koomphon (THA) took bronze on 51.82m.

Kreeta Sintawacheewa (THA) vaulted 5.15m for gold in the men’s pole vault, 5cm higher than Iksandar Alwi (MAS) who got silver at 5.10m. Sompong Saombankuay (THA) won bronze clearing 5.00m.

In the men’s 4x100m, Thailand won gold, Singapore silver and Indonesia bronze. In the women’s 4x100, the Thai women matched their male counterparts, easily winning gold ahead of silver medalists Vietnam and bronze winners Indonesia.

In women’s heptathlon, Wassana Winatho (THA) sealed the gold medal in the seven-discipline event with wins in the long jump and 800m on Monday.

Wassana ended with 5,556 points. Silver medalist Narcisa Atienza (PHI) got silver on 5,241 and Sunisa Khotseemueang (THA) won bronze with 5,152 points.

Wassana won the day’s long jump with a 5.65m leap. Sunisa (THA) jumped 5.59m for second place and Narcisa Atienza (PHI) took third on 5.51m.

In javelin, Sunisa threw 42.36m to take top spot, Atienza made 42.27m and Wassana came well back in third on 39.67m.

But Wassana wrapped the gold with a 2:36.86 run in the 800m. Sunisa came second in 2:36.99 and Atienza ran 2:38.70 for third, close enough to Sunisa to hold onto the silver.

Wassana had the best of the day Sunday in the first four events.

Rowing

In rowing at Nga Lie Dam, Nestor Cordova of the Philippines pipped Aung Ko Min by just 3-tenths of second for gold in the men’s single sculls. The Philippine rower stroked home in 7 minutes 49.38 seconds. Aung Ko Min finished in 7:49.68. Memo Memo (INA) got bronze in 8:03.61.

In men’s double sculls, Indonesia’s Muhad Yakin/Ihram Ihram took gold in 7:07.42. Benjamin JR Tolentino/Edgar Ilas (PHI) won silver in 7:08.86 and Porntawat Inlee/Sajia Heamhern (THA) got bronze in 7:31.33.

In the coxless fours, Indonesia won gold in 6:49.98, Vietnam won silver 2 seconds behind and bronze went to Thailand in 6:52.19.

Thi an Le/Thi Sam Tran (VIE) stroked to gold in the women’s double sculls in 8:02.26, coming home nearly 10 seconds before silver medalists Chaw Su/Ni Lar Win (MYA). Susanti Sunsanti/ Wa Ode Fitri Rahmanliani (INA) got bronze in 8:34.73

Archery

In archery at Wunna Theikdi Archery Field, Chan Jing Ru (SIN) won gold in the women’s individual recurve, beating silver medalist Titik Kusumawardani (THA) 6-4 in the final. Ika Yuliana Rochmawati (INA) won bronze 6-2 over Loc Thi Dao (VIE).

In the women’s individual compound, Aung Ngeain (MYA) pushed Dellie Threesyadinda (INA) to the silver with a 138-130 win for the gold medal. Cham Nong Saritha (MAS) won bronze.

On the men’s side, Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Cuong 138-136 to take the compound gold over silver medalist Chatachot Nitiphum (THA). Earl Benjamin Yap (PHI) got the bronze.

In recurve, Mohamad Khairul Anuar (MAS) beat teammate Bakri Atiq Bazil 7-1 to win the gold. Bakri got silver and Tham Wong Witthaya (THA) won bronze 7-3 over Riau Ega Agata Salsabilla (INA).

Sepak Takraw

In men’s sepak takraw regu at Wunna Theikdi Stadium, Thailand won gold, Malaysia silver and Myanmar and Laos snagged bronzes.

Thailand doubled their sepak takraw gold rush with the women taking top spot on the regu podium. Myanmar got silver and Laos and Vietnam claimed bronzes.

Weight-lifting

In men’s 94kg weightlifting, Sarat Sumpradit (THA) snatched 158kg and clean and jerked 194kg for a gold medal-winning 352kg. Hoa Tran Van (VIE) got silver with a 345kg (157/188) total. Mohd Faiz Musa (MAS) totaled 308kg (135/173) to win bronze by 1kg over Saw Aung Naing (MYA).

In the women’s 69kg, Boonatee Klkasit (THA) snatched 100kg and clean and jerked 125kg for a gold medal-winning 225kg total. Lae Lae Win (MYA) hefted 206kg (93/113) for silver and Nor Khasida Abdul Halim (MAS) took bronze with 188kg (83/107).

Cycling

In cycling at Mount Pleasant, Vietnam wheeled to gold in 2 hours 36 minutes, 19.717 seconds in the men’s 100km team time trial better than 2 minutes ahead of silver medalists Thailand. Malaysia got the bronze in 2:41:41.285.

Basketball

In basketball at Zeyarthiri Indoor Stadium (A), the Thai women topped Indonesia 66-52 after coming back from a 22-4 deficit in the first quarter with a 25-4, second, 13-11 third and 15-15 fourth.

Volleyball

In volleyball at Zeyarthiri Indoor Stadium (B), Thailand beat Vietnam 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-22) and Indonesia was pushed to 3-1 (25-13, 20-25, 25- 17, 25-15) by Myanmar in the day’s second match.

Futsal

In women’s futsal at Futsal Stadium, Thailand took a 3-0 lead into the second half and ended winners 3-1 over Malaysia.

In the later game, Indonesia had little trouble putting Myanmar down 5-1.

Golf

In golf at Royal Myanmar Golf Club, Danthai Boonma (THA) shot a second- round 2-under par 70 to move alone into first place on 138. Natipong Srithong (THA) shot a 69 to move into second on 140. Four players hold down third on 141.

In team, the Thai men (418) hold a 5-stroke lead over Myanmar’s 423. Indonesia is in third on 427.

In women’s individual, Min Myo (MYA) shot a 1-under 71 to take sole lead a stroke ahead of four players on par 72 after the first round.

In women’s team play, Philippines, on 144, leads Thailand and Myanmar by 3 strokes and Malaysia by 6.

Hockey

At Hockey Field, Yangon, Indonesia’s women took a 6-0 lead over Vietnam into the locker room at the end of the first and scored another 9 goals in the second to win 15-0.

But the day’s second match between Myanmar and Thailand ended scoreless as both team’s defense prevent a single marker. In the final women’s match, Malaysia knocked off Singapore 4-0.

In the men’s draw, Malaysia embarrassed Thailand 13-0 and Myanmar topped Vietnam 8-1.
