The Ho Chi Minh City Association of Farmers will send more than 100 outstanding farmers and agricultural managers abroad under a five-year project, starting this year, to learn experience and skills in agricultural production. Accordingly, 100-125 skilled farmers and agricultural managers will be sent to the Republic of Korea, China, Thailand, and Malaysia in the 2014-2018 period to learn models of effective agricultural production and rural development. These countries are those that apply high technologies to agricultural production, the association said. This June will see 30 farmers go to the Republic of Korea under the project. Besides learning about advanced agricultural techniques and effective management methods, these farmers and managers will also take part in producing marketing promotion activities. The project, which is estimated to cost about VND5 billion (US$236,000), is aimed at improving human resources in agriculture and contributing to developing the city’s agricultural production sustainably. “Through the project, our farmers will gain valuable experience in and absorb good knowledge of agricultural production to apply to their farming in the city,” , said Nguyen Van Phung, chairman of the association. The project will also help the city implement its new rural development program successfully, Phung added.
