The anniversary ceremony kicked off at 3:00 pm at the Municipal Theater in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of representatives from various agencies of central and municipal levels.
In his speech, Tang Huu Phong, editor-in-chief of the newspaper, said, “Forty years ago, when people across Vietnam commemorated the first National Day after the country was reunified, a new newspaper named Tuoi Tre made its debut on the Saturday morning of September 2, 1975.”
Over the past four decades, Tuoi Tre has experienced many ups and downs, but with the dynamism, enthusiasm, and creativity of its leaders, cadre, reporters, and contributors, the newspaper has overcome all difficulties and challenges to continuously develop, Phong said.

From a newspaper that published only a few thousand copies per issue in 1975, Tuoi Tre has become a newspaper favored by numerous readers both at home and abroad, he added.
Since its establishment, Tuoi Tre has incessantly improved and renovated itself, both in content and in format to meet its readers’ increasingly diverse demand for information, the editor-in-chief said.
Despite whatever improvement and renovation, the newspaper always maintains its identity, Phong stressed.
“We promise that we will do our best, as the former editorial boards have done, to maintain and develop Tuoi Tre,” he said.

On behalf of the current editorial board, Phong thanked the leaders of central and municipal agencies, businesses, sponsors and millions of readers for their support for Tuoi Tre over the past 40 years.
He also wished that Tuoi Tre will be given the same support in the future.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen The Ky, deputy head of the Central Commission for Propaganda and Education, commented that Tuoi Tre has entered the age of 40, at which a person is supposed “to know well what is right and wrong, to be mature, to be worldly-wise, and to be capable of doing many things.”

In recent years, Tuoi Tre has emerged as one of the leading newspapers in Vietnam in terms of circulation and the ability to provide timely news for the public, Ky added.
Nguyen Thanh Phong, a member of the Party Central Committee and deputy secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, also said, “Many articles published by Tuoi Tre have left a deep impression on readers and showed the spirit of a struggle against negative elements, the evil and the bad.”
“The Standing Board of the Ho Chi Minh City chapter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, which manages Tuoi Tre, should continue paying attention to its supervision over the newspaper to help it fulfill its duties, spreading among young people the spirit of self-devotion to noble ideals for the freedom and happiness of Vietnamese people as well as for the sustainable development of the city and the country.”
