All high-pressure sodium street lights in Ho Chi Minh City will be replaced with LED lights by the year 2020, according to a plan recently proposed by the municipal Department of Transport.
The department has just put forward a plan to replace the current high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps used in the city’s street lights with light-emitting diode (LED) ones to cut down on public energy consumption.
The scheme is estimated to cost VND1.3 trillion (US$58.04 billion), and will be carried out gradually from 2016 to 2020.
The plan is part of the department’s program on conserving and using energy efficiently, which aims to trim at least ten percent of energy consumption in those fields having high consumption rates such as public lighting and transport.
The municipal People’s Committee will review the plan before submitting it for approval to the People’s Council.
