Heat continues to bake north-central Vietnam; rain cools south this week

High temperatures are anticipated in north-central Vietnam this week while the south is to have mild weather and rain.

During the first few days of the week, areas between Nghe An and Thua Thien-Hue Provinces along the central coast can expect to experience scorching weather, with highs between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius, however lower temperatures are predicted thanks to evening rain, Le Thi Xuan Lan, a Ho Chi Minh City-based meteorologist, has forecast.

Owing to growing southwesterly winds, the Central Highlands and southern regions will see rainy evenings over the period, with temperatures hovering around 25-33 degrees Celsius, the weather specialist said.

Rough seas and poor weather are also expected in the southern area of the East Vietnam Sea due to southwesterly winds and a storm to the east of the Philippines, Lan warned, suggesting fishermen stay alert when sailing in those waters.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, prolonged strong squalls and downpours will continue to lash the north under the effect of a trough to the north of the country.

Land subsidence and flash floods are also predicted in mountainous areas.
