A man in the northern Vietnamese city of Hai Phong has slammed his car into multiple motorbikes while reportedly under the influence of nitrous oxide.

Officers in Ngo Quyen District, Hai Phong City, confirmed on Monday that they are investigating an accident which occurred on Lach Tray Street at around 10:30 pm on Sunday.

According to preliminary information, a 4-door sedan with registration number 15A-205.37, was traveling from the city center toward Rao Bridge when it struck five motorbikes and several electric bicycles.

The victims suffered minor injuries, while their vehicles were only slightly damaged. The car only stopped once it crashed into a utility post in front of the headquarters of the People’s Committee in Lach Tray Ward.

As local police officers rushed to the scene, the driver of the vehicle fled on foot.

However, witnesses were able to take photos of him immediately following the crash.

One image, shared on social media by Sunday night, showed him sitting inside the vehicle with a balloon in his mouth.

Witnesses also recalled loud music coming from the car, and said that the balloon was consistent with one containing nitrous oxide, otherwise known as laughing gas.

Officers are investigating the incident and continuing their hunt for the suspect.
