Nguyen Xuan Anh, who was removed as Party chief of the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang in October, has been stripped of his post as member and chairman of the municipal decision-making People’s Council.
The Da Nang People’s Council convened a special meeting on Friday morning, where delegates unanimously agreed to relieve Anh of his post.
The approval was reached among 48 delegates in the absence of Anh, who had asked to not attend the meeting.
The People's Council is the local legislative body charged with governing provinces and cities across Vietnam.
Friday’s meeting included no discussion of who would fill the vacancy.

On October 6, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam dismissed Anh from the committee and from his post as Party chief of Da Nang for unethical behavior, including using invalid degrees and accepting cars and houses from businesses.
Da Nang-born Nguyen Xuan Anh, 41, has previously held several important posts in his home city.
In June 2011, he was elected deputy chairman of the municipal administration, and was appointed deputy secretary of the city’s Party Committee for the 2010-2015 tenure in April 2014.
He was promoted to the city’s Party chief for the 2015-20 tenure in October 2015.
In June 2016, Anh was appointed chairman of the Da Nang People’s Council while maintaining his post as the city’s Party chief.
His wrongdoings were discovered and announced earlier this year.
Besides Anh, Huynh Duc Tho, the city’s chairman, was also warned for multiple land management violations.
