The United Nations Office in Vietnam on Tuesday announced its additional allocation worth US$4.21 million to those affected by Typhoon Damrey, the 12th major storm to hit the Southeast Asian nation this year.
The aid came after emergency relief worth $100,000 the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs granted to Vietnam two weeks ago.
The latest relief, allocated from the Central Emergency Response Fund, will be used to benefit around 150,000 people, including nearly 47,000 children, in terms of clean water supply, hygiene, food security and rebuilding.
Typhoon Damrey, which struck central and south-central Vietnam on November 4, caused heavy flooding and destruction across the region, affecting more than 4.3 million people and destroyed more than 300,000 houses.
