Police in southern Vietnam are investigating the alleged murder of a man after his head was found in a recycle bin.

The body part was discovered by a garbage collector in Binh Duong Province, 30km from Ho Chi Minh City, on Saturday afternoon.

The sanitation worker was collecting rubbish along a road when he spotted a blue backpack inside a garbage bin.

He opened the backpack and found a black plastic bag.

The man continued uncovering the bag and was terrified to see a human head, before running away.

Being notified of the find, competent agencies arrived shortly at the scene to investigate the case.

Initial results showed that the head belonged to a man, about 35 years old, who was supposedly murdered and decapitated.

Police are looking for the body of the victim, as well as collecting statements from local residents.

According to news outlet Dan Tri, officers stated that the man had died 12 hours prior to the moment the head was found.
