The funeral for late Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Education and Training Le Hai An, who fell to his death in an accident last week, was organized in Hanoi on Monday afternoon.

The ceremony took place at the National Funeral Home, situated on Tran Thanh Tong Street in Hai Ba Trung District.

The funeral organizing board consists of 15 members headed by Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha.

An’s funeral was attended by thousands, including high-ranking officials of the state, government, and Party, as well as many teachers, lecturers, and students.

“An was a dedicated teacher, scientist, and leader who was always ready to fulfill every task he was assgined," Minister Nha wrote in the funeral book.

"His passing is a great loss to the Ministry of Education and Training, as well as to the country’s education sector."

The memorial service took place at 2:30 pm on the same day.

The cremation ceremony is scheduled to be organized at 5:05 pm, followed by a burial ceremony at the Thien Duc Cemetery in the northern province of Phu Tho.

An fell to his death at the headquarters of the Ministry of Education and Training in Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi on Thursday last week.

The late deputy minister fell to the ground from the eighth floor of a building inside the headquaters at around 7:10 am, a source from the ministry told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on the same day.

His death was an accident, the source said.

Born in Hanoi in 1971, An was named Deputy Minister of Education and Training in November 2018 and was put in charge of higher education.

In February 2019, he took on the role of secretary of the Party organ at the Ministry of Education and Training.
