A 56-year-old man has spent the past 10 years riding his wiggle car along many streets in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang to pick up tire-puncturing nails and other sharp objects.

Nguyen Ba Phuc, a resident in Tan Chinh Ward, Thanh Khe District, has become quite popular with people living on such streets as Le Duan, Ong Ich Khiem, Hoang Hoa Tham, Hai Phong, and Hung Vuong.

Phuc usually rides his custom-made wiggle car along these roads and collects tire-puncturing nails and other sharp objects to ensure a safe journey for local commuters.

He was previously a fisherman until he suffered severe food poisoning from consuming pufferfish more than a decade ago.

Phuc survived the episode but he was bedridden for nearly three years, as well as lost his ability to work.

In order to overcome such a tragedy, Phuc decided to do some good deeds for this life.

He asked his relatives to buy him a ride-on toy and customized it with three rubber wheels and a bigger seat.

Phuc often leaves his house at 6:00 am and returns late in the afternoon every day.

“The streets used to be filled with sharp objects many years ago when a lot of constructions were being carried out in the city,” Phuc stated.

“I saw countless car drivers and motorcyclists struggle after having a flat tire, so I wanted to do something to help.”

Phuc now lives alone in the home he inherited from his parents.

Local food vendors have been supporting him by offering him their products for free.

“Phuc suffers a poor health condition but that does not stop him from being kind to others,” said Gia, who sells food on Ngo Gia Tu Street.
