Many houses were damaged and trees uprooted by hail and strong gusts in the northern Vietnamese province of Yen Bai on Monday evening.
The hailstorm began at around 7:00 pm and lasted for 30 minutes in Yen Bai City, the capital of the namesake province, according to the provincial steering committee for disaster prevention.
Along such streets as Hoang Van Thu, Yen Ninh, Dien Bien, Quang Trung, and Km5-Yen Binh, houses were ravaged and had their roofs blown away.

A lot of trees were uprooted and some utility poles were broken following the incident, blocking traffic along several routes and causing power outages across the city.
Inundation also occurred in some neighborhoods.
Authorities have mobilized their units to assist local residents in dealing with the aftermath of the hailstorm.

According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, a cold spell will start affecting the northern and north-central provinces of Vietnam on Wednesday, causing rain and strong winds.
The lowest temperatures in the regions will drop to between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius, reaching below 13 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas.
