Three people died in a crash where a truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday.

The accident happened in the wee hours of Tuesday in Tan Hung Thuan Ward, District 12.

The truck, carrying rice, crashed into the tractor-trailer from behind, leading to its front becoming completely distorted and stuck to the rear of the other vehicle.

A person in the truck was taken to the hospital for emergency care while three were killed in the cab of the tractor-trailer, authorities said.

The rice was loaded onto another truck after the crash.

The truck in distress was then separated from the tractor-trailer.

Congestion followed on the road early in the morning before police cleared the traffic later.

Over 1,100 people died and 1,780 othes were injured in 2,300 traffic accidents in January-February in Vietnam, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.
