— A ceremony was held in Hanoi on Tuesday by the Ministry of National Defense to hand over the State President’s decision to assign ten officers to join UN peacekeeping operations at the UN headquarters, the Central African Republic, and South Sudan, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Society

— Vietnam on Wednesday morning reported no new case of COVID-19, with the country’s tally remaining at 989 with 438 under treatment, 525 recoveries, and 26 deaths.

— Pham Thanh Hoc, deputy head of the Hanoi Party Committee’s Department of Propaganda and Education, on Tuesday said local authorities need to immediately sanction those who do not wear face masks in public as well as puting more effort into raising people’s awareness of protecting themselves, their families, and the community from the COVID-19 pandemic.

— Truc Nhi and Dieu Nhi, the Vietnamese twins born conjoined at the pelvis who were separated at 13 months old in a hictoric operation last month, have shown improvements in their health as they can sit unassisted, with their bones and organs developing well.

— The Labor Federation in the central city of Da Nang has provided around VND3 billion (US$130,000) in support for COVID-19-hit workers in the locality.

Business

— More than ten percent of young Vietnamese are forecast to lose their jobs in 2020 due to COVID-19, according to a report released on Tuesday by the International Labor Organization and Asian Development Bank.

— The Vietnam Aviation Business Association has proposed that the government offer domestic airlines a credit package of VND25-27 trillion ($1.08-1.17 billion) at a preferential interest rate for a three- to four-year term, as the sector is facing serious impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnam News Agency reported on Tuesday.

Education

— Local authorities in Trang Dai Ward in the southern city of Bien Hoa on Tuesday inspected Nguyen Khuyen Elementary and High School as it had allowed more than 800 of its students to go to school despite a ban on in-person school activities in order to curb COVID-19.
