Police in Hanoi are looking for a burglar who broke into a local gold shop in the wee hours of Tuesday and took 13 kilograms of gold and VND140 million (US$6,000) in cash.

Officers said on Wednesday they were cooperating with their colleagues in Son Tay Town to closely investigate a burglary at a local gold shop.

At about 3:00 am Tuesday, a young man wearing a helmet, a face mask, and gloves scaled a house next to Tuan Dat gold and jewelry shop on Phung Khac Khoan Street and climbed over into the balcony on the third floor of the shop.

The burglar broke through two layers of locked doors on the third floor and went down to the first floor to disable the security system before stealing gold inside the display cabinets.

He took 13 kilograms of gold and VND140 million in cash with the total value estimated to be VND13 billion ($556,800), according to Van Anh, the shop’s owner.

After accomplishing the heist, the thief climbed back out, walked to a motorbike parked ten buildings away, and escaped on the vehicle.

The case is being further investigated.
