Police in the northern Vietnamese province of Quang Ninh have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his eight-year-old son with a knife.
Officers under the provincial Department of Public Security confirmed on Wednesday that they had captured San A Thau, 34, a resident of Huc Dong Commune, Binh Lieu District.
A preliminary investigation showed that Thau had slashed his eight-year-old son, S.L.T., to death with a knife at their home shortly after midnight on Wednesday.
Local police were notified of the incident and promptly apprehended the man.
Officers have examined the site of the alleged murder, carried out an autopsy, and collected statements and relevant evidence.
Thau has no criminal record, VnExpress quoted local authorities as saying, adding that the family works in agriculture and is not considered to be a poor household.
According to Vietnamese law, murder is punishable by seven to 20 years in prison, a life sentence, or the death penalty, depending on the severity of the crime.
