Police in the southern province of Binh Duong’s Thu Dau Mot City on Tuesday said they had arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly beating two female students who were involved in the same road accident as him a day before.

Le Tan Thanh, 29, was urgently arrested for the investigation into the case, police officers said on Tuesday evening.

According to CCTV footage, while carrying a woman on a motorbike on Bui Ngoc Thu Street in Tuong Binh Hiep Ward, Thu Dau Mot City on Monday afternoon, Thanh made a sudden U-turn without observation and turning on signal lights.

Two female students traveling on an electric bike in the same direction as Thanh failed to halt their vehicle following his unexpected move and rear-ended his motorbike.

As the two students and the vehicles fell on the street, another woman riding another scooter was unable to make a stop, thus running over the fallen vehicles before being thrown away.

Thanh, together with his passenger, was unaffected by the hit.

To everyone’s surprise, Thanh rushed to the students and kicked them violently, instead of checking whether his victims had any injury.

CCTV footage shows Le Tan Thanh beating two female students who were involved in the same road accident as him in Binh Duong Province, December 7, 2020.

While onlookers were trying to separate Thanh from the students, the 29-year-old man took out a stick-shaped weapon to threaten everyone.

Thanh and his passengers then left the scene whereas other people came to help the students and the injured woman.

Assessing that Thanh’s behavior was dangerous, police decided to urgently arrest the man for an investigation into the case.

“Thanh preliminarily admitted to hitting people after the traffic collision and said he had been drinking before the incident,” a police officer said.

Police also contacted the two students’ families and witnesses for further clarification.

Thanh will be investigated not only for hitting people but also for signs of traffic rule violations.

It is reported that Thanh has had a criminal record of intentionally causing injury to other people and robbery.

The investigation is still underway.
