Police in Hanoi have apprehended two men for secretly filming women having sex at local hotels and blackmailing them.
The municipal Department of Police confirmed on Thursday it had arrested and initiated legal proceedings against Chu Danh Giang, 37, and Nguyen Trong Toai, 23, who both reside in Hoai Duc District, for appropriation of property.
According to preliminary investigation, Giang and Toai planned on filming the sexual intercourse of hotels guests, especially women having extramarital sex, in order to blackmail them.
In mid-July, the two bought mini cameras and pretended to be guests of local hotels and motels to install the devices in their rooms.
After filming the victims, Giang and Toai followed them to gather such information as home and workplace addresses.
They then contacted the victims, threatened to send their family members the footage, and forced them to pay a large amount of money.
After receiving reports from the victims, police in Hanoi launched an investigation and captured the two suspects.
Officers also confiscated three memory cards, six mobile phones, one printer, four mini cameras, and several other devices.
A total of 52 sex videos were found in the memory cards and mobile phones.
At the police station, Giang and Toai admitted to having appropriated more than VND180 million (US$7,790) from multiple victims.
Further investigation is ongoing.
