Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have been conducting random COVID-19 tests on passengers arriving at Tan Son Nhat International Airport from Hanoi, northern Quang Ninh Province, and northern Hai Phong City as part of COVID-19 prevention and control efforts.

People who arrive in the metropolis from Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh, and Cat Bi International Airport in Hai Phong have had their samples collected randomly from February 14, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC).

A total of 200 samples are collected per day, the HCDC added.

Health workers from Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital, Hung Vuong Hospital, Ear Nose and Throat Hospital, and Hospital of Traditional Medicine have been assisting the process.

Prior to this process, authorities in the southern city collected 6,551 samples from people in high-risk areas from February 11 to 14.

About 6,504 samples have come back negative for the novel coronavirus so far.

Ho Chi Minh City has documented 36 community-based COVID-19 cases since a new wave of local infections hit the country in late January.

Approximately 1,570 direct contacts and 1,376 indirect contacts of these patients have been quarantined and tested for COVID-19. All of the results have come back negative.

Given the complicated situation, all citizens are required to comply with the five rules of COVID-19 prevention and control, namely wearing face masks, disinfecting, keeping safe distance, avoid gatherings, and filling in health declaration forms.

Vietnam has documented 2,271 COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday afternoon, with 1,541 recoveries and 35 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.

A total of 679 local infections have been detected in 13 provinces and cities since January 27.
