Police in the northern Vietnamese province of Hai Duong confirmed on Monday they were investigating a case where a six-year-old girl was hospitalized after being brutally hit by her mother.
Preliminary information showed that the victim – six-year-old V.N.P.C. – lives with her mother – 25-year-old Vu Thi Th. – and two-year-old sister in a tenanted room in Tan Thuong Commune, Cam Giang District.
On Saturday night, local residents heard C. crying and screaming for help inside her locked room.
After being notified, police officers arrived at the location and discovered that the young girl had suffered serious injuries.
She was brought to the medical center in Cam Giang District for emergency treatment and later transferred to the Hai Duong General Hospital.
The girl suffered multiple bruises on her face and was in panic.
At the police station, Th. said her daughter was unable to control her urination and defecation, during which she did not call her for support.
The mother was so angry that she beat her own daughter on four occasions in mid-February and early March.
The young girl was not allowed to leave the tenanted room.
A police official in Cam Giang District stated that Th. could be charged for torturing a family member.
The woman was not taken into custody as she is six months pregnant.
Further investigation is ongoing.
