Nine people were caught trying to enter Vietnam illegally from Cambodia on five barges on Thursday morning.

Patrol units under the Vietnamese navy’s 5th Regional Command detected the cases of unlawful migration between 4:00 and 6:00 am on Thursday.

The five barges came from a maritime area in Cambodia and were heading to Phu Quoc Island off the southern Vietnamese province of Kien Giang.

The barges were then escorted to local ports for inspection.

Officers discovered a total of nine people on the five barges, all of whom failed to present the necessary documents required to enter Vietnam.

The individuals have been quarantined in accordance with regulations, while the vehicles have been impounded.

Local authorities are continuing their investigation into the case
