COVID-19 Updates

-- Vietnam’s Ministry of Health reported 9,710 domestic COVID-19 infections, including 4,231 cases in Ho Chi Minh City, on Saturday, raising the national tally to 265,464, with 96,985 recoveries and 5,437 deaths.

-- Authorities in the southern province of Binh Duong have asked the government and Ministry of Health to allocate an additional one million COVID-19 vaccine doses after the number of local infections in the province exceeded 41,000.

-- A shipment of one million Sinopharm vaccine shots arrived at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday. This is part of the five million doses Saigon Pharmaceutical Company (Sapharco) had purchased with the health ministry's support.

-- The People’s Committee in the northern province of Bac Ninh has decided to isolate Luong Tai District with about 100,000 residents after nine COVID-19 cases were recently detected in the locality. The province had not recorded any community-based transmission for 21 days prior to the detection of the new cases.

-- Traffic jams occurred on multiple streets in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday as competent authorities began requiring commuters to file movement declarations in a bid to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.

-- A 57-year-old man from the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh died of stroke on Saturday after five healthcare facilities refused to provide him with emergency treatment.

-- A 34-year-old man from the northern province of Bac Giang was arrested on Saturday for murdering his wife, who was three months pregnant, following a row.

-- Police in Ho Chi Minh City are searching for the directors of two local English language centers after they were accused of appropriating tuition fees from many learners.

-- Four commune-level officials in the north-central province of Thanh Hoa have been removed from their positions after being caught gambling at their office amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
