A fire killed one man, injured four people, and burned two houses on Luy Ban Bich Street in Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday evening.

Local people in Tan Phu District’s Phu Tho Hoa Ward heard loud explosions and saw a fire at the house at 735 Luy Ban Bich Street at around 8:00 pm on Sunday.

Some people were seen running out of the burning house and screaming.

As some of the locals tried to put out the blaze with fire extinguishers in vain, it quickly engulfed the house before spreading to the adjacent house at 737 Luy Ban Bich Street.

Upon receiving reports of the fire, many fire trucks and nearly 100 firefighters arrived at the scene.

They managed to extinguish the fire 20 minutes later.

The blaze killed Do Nhu Khoi, 32, and injured Huynh Thi Ngoc Tuyen, 16, Do Nhu Khoa, 26, Le Thi Ngoc Giau, and Do Nhu Ngan, 4.

Tuyen and Khoa were admitted to Cho Ray Hospital in District 5 for their burns while Giau and Ngan were sent to the Children’s Hospital 1 in District 10 for emergency treatment.

About 140 square meters of the No. 735 house was completely destroyed and part of the front of the No. 737 house was damaged.

The amount of property damage is currently being determined while an investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.

Functional forces determined cleaning chemicals for leather shoes, cartons, and gasoline in three motorbikes had fueled the fire.
