People entering Vietnam for business purposes within less than 14 days will not be subject to COVID-19 quarantine, according to a new regulation issued by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Friday.

This rule, which took effect the same day, is applicable to those who enter Vietnam for such a short time for diplomatic and official purposes or those who come as foreign investors, experts, skilled workers, business managers, market researchers, and their relatives.

It also applies to other cases mutually agreed between Vietnam and each of its foreign partners, and those who contact with all the aforesaid arrivals during their working period in Vietnam.

All these people will be exempt from medical isolation but they must strictly and fully comply with COVID-19 prevention and control measures, the ministry said.

They will be arranged to stay in separate accommodations to avoid risks of COVID-19 transmission, and they must self-monitor their health and promptly report to local authorities if they have one of the typical COVID-19 symptoms, such as a fever, coughing, sore throat, difficulty breathing and loss of taste or smell.

They are required to have international health insurance and their inviting organizations must commit paying treatment cost in case they contract COVID-19.

Such inviters must also pay all expenses on accommodation, transportation, and COVID-19 testing related to their invitees.

For those who enter Vietnam for diplomatic or official purposes, they will be exempt from such payment, except for the cost of hotel stay.

In case such arrivals wish to extend their duration of stay in Vietnam, then all current general regulations on COVID-19 prevention and control, as well as on relevant entry and exit rules, shall be applied.

Under a recent dispatch by the health ministry, people entering Vietnam from January 1, 2022 will be put in quarantine at their accommodations for three days if they have fully been vaccinated against COVID-19, have recovered from COVID-19 for no longer than six months, or have got a negative PCR test result for the virus.

Those who have yet to be immunized or fully inoculated will be isolated for seven days at their residences.

Since the COVID19 pandemic erupted in Vietnam in early 2020, the Southeast Asian nation has documented 1,620,869 COVID-19 cases, including 1,212,444 recoveries and 30,766 deaths, the ministry reported.
