A man was crushed after a wall collapsed while workers were repairing some degraded components at a pagoda in the northern Vietnamese province of Hai Duong on Sunday.

The incident happened at Tranh Pagoda in Dong Tam Commune of Hai Duong’s Ninh Giang District, Dinh Van Chau, the chairman of the commune, confirmed on Monday.

The victim is Vu The Quan, a 60-year-old resident of the district.

Quan was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment but he could not survive due to severe injuries.

Local authorities suspended the renovation project of the seriously degraded construction items at Tranh Pagoda following the incident.

In response to questions regarding whether the pagoda’s renovation was carried out with permission or not, Nguyen Dinh Tranh, chairman of the People’s Committee of Ninh Giang District, pledges to inform the press after receiving a detailed report from the People’s Committee of Dong Tam Commune.

Functional forces are investigating the case.
