A fire engulfed a house in Dong Da District, Hanoi in the small hours on Thursday, killing five people.
The victims were D.T.M., the 74-year-old owner of the house, B.N.K., M.’s 37-year-old son, D.M.H., M.’s 37-year-old daughter-in-law, B.N.P., M.’s 10-year-old grandchild, and B.G.H., M.’s 1-year-old grandchild.
The fire broke out at 1:13 am on Thursday at M.’s three-story house down Alley 65 on Pham Ngoc Thach Street in Dong Da District.

Vu Van Ba, one of M.’s neighbors, said he heard an explosion that sounded like a mini propane tank exploding around that time.
There were two other people living in M.’s house in addition to the five mentioned victims, including L., M.’s eldest son, and a child of his, according to Ba.
After receiving a report on the incident, four fire trucks, one command vehicle, and many firefighters swiftly arrived at the scene.

While trying to extinguish the fire, the firefighters discovered one victim still breathing.
After being taken to Saint Paul Hospital for emergency treatment, the victim was unable to be saved and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Meanwhile, L. and one of his children escaped on their own to the roof of a house next door and were brought down safely by ladder.

The blaze was put out at 1:23 am on the same day.
The damaged properties included household appliances, furniture, and motorbikes.
Police are investigating the cause.
