Hundreds of pine trees on an area of about one hectare in the inner city of Da Lat in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong were found illegally cut down when rangers inspected the Lam Vien protection forest on Tuesday.

The large-scale deforestation was reported on a one-hectare pine forest land managed by the Lam Vien Forest Management Board in Ward 8, Da Lat City.

At the site, which is located in a remote area in the middle of the forest, with no roads for vehicles and far from farming areas, around 200 pine trees with a root diameter from 20 to 60 centimeters were found to have been recently chopped down.

In addition, there were water bottles, food packaging covers, and petrol cans allegedly left by illegal loggers at the scene.

This showed that the deforestation had just happened a couple of days earlier and at different times.

The police, People’s Procuracy, and forest protection division of Da Lat City have coordinated with the forest owner to calculate the loss, examine the scene of deforestation, and track down the loggers.
