Torrential rains on Sunday afternoon inundated many streets and made traffic chaotic in Hanoi as a result.

A heavy and unusual rain with lightning dumped a huge amount of water on the capital in the afternoon after a few days of sunshine.

Rainfall measured in Ba Dinh, Dong Da, Cau Giay, Nam Tu Liem, and Tay Ho Districts ranged from 20mm to 60mm and even reached 160mm in some zones, causing many areas to be seriously flooded.

Severely inundated areas included the streets of Ton Dan, Thuy Khue, Ta Hien, Luong Ngoc Quyen, Dien Bien Phu, Nguyen Tri Phuong, Nguyen Phong Sac, Phu Xa, Tran Cung, Phan Van Truong, Hoa Bang, Nguyen Chinh, Thai Ha, Nguyen Khuyen, Bui Xuong Trach, Hoa Lam, and many others.

As many places were knee-deep in water when it was time for people to return home after spending the weekend outside, traffic was badly interrupted and traveling was difficult, with a lot of vehicles stalling.

Rains continued swamping the Vietnamese capital city on Sunday night.
