The director of a company in Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, southern Vietnam has been arrested on suspicion of producing and selling fake gasoline.
A source close to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper confirmed on Sunday that the provincial Department of Public Security had apprehended Vo Hoai Phuong, 38, director of Gia Khiem Transport Company, on Saturday evening.
The arrest came after officers caught a tank truck red-handed pumping chemicals into the gasoline tank of the Gia Khiem Vung Tau petroleum retail store, run by Gia Khiem Company, in Phu My Town.
The truck driver claimed he had transported about 11 metric tons of chemicals from a company in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City to the Gia Khiem Vung Tau petroleum store under the direction of Phuong.

Police also managed to stop another tank truck as it was carrying fake gasoline from the store to two filling stations in Son Binh and Binh Gia Communes in Chau Duc District, Ba Ria - Vung Tau.
On the same evening, officers searched Phuong’s house in Ho Chi Minh City and confiscated a large amount of coloring powder, hundreds of millions of dong (VND100 million = US$4,300), and related documents.
Further investigation is ongoing.
