One child drowned, another went missing, and two others were saved by fishermen as the group of four swam at a beach in the north-central Vietnamese province of Nghe An on Sunday afternoon.
Ho Xuan Huong, chairman of Quynh Phuong Ward in Nghe An’s Hoang Mai Town, confirmed the incident later the same day.
The group of children went to a beach in Quynh Phuong Ward at around 2:30 pm before strong currents washed them away.
Local fishermen managed to rescue two of them while the two remaining children went missing.
Functional forces were able to retrieve the body of one of the two missing victims, 16-year-old N.N.T., after one hour of searching in the water.
Only 14-year-old H.T.H.D. remained missing as of Sunday but the search continues.
All of the children attend Quynh Phuong Middle School in Hoang Mai Town.
