The People’s Committee of Cam Pha City in northern Quang Ninh Province announced the 15-day suspension of four environment inspection officers on Monday for an investigation into their involvement in the illegal household aquaculture in Bai Tu Long Bay.
The officers, namely Pham Thanh Nam, Tran Van Hung, Doan Quoc Hiep, and Bui Duy Tung, were suspended for loose management.
Local people developed household aquaculture areas without permission, encroaching on sea routes, causing unsafe sea traffic, environmental pollution, and loss of beauty in Bai Tu Long Bay starting in 2018, according to the Cam Pha People’s Committee.

A task force established by the Cam Pha administration and local authorities have dealt with a total of 62 cases of such violation and forced 17 other households to relocate since August 5.
Households in those 79 cases illegally occupied a combined sea area of nearly 237 hectares.
So far, 20 households voluntarily dismantled and removed their aquaculture facilities that took up about 6.2 hectares.
