A restaurant in Da Nang, central Vietnam was fined VND140 million (US$5,950) for turning on loud music and causing noise pollution at night, according to a decision by the municipal People’s Committee.

Located in Hai Chau District, the TST Garden restaurant, operated by Sao Thang Tam Service and Trading Co. Ltd., played music exceeding the maximum permissible limit of 45 dBA on noise near a church between 9:00 pm and 6:00 am by 24.5 dBA, which is stipulated in the national technical regulation.

The company now has to pay a fine of VND140 million and is forbidden from turning on loud music at the restaurant for four months and 15 days.

In addition, the company must implement soundproofing measures to reduce noise to meet technical standards and refund the cost of assessment, measurement, and analysis of environmental noise samples to the environmental police unit under the Da Nang Department of Public Security.

Hai Chau District authorities stated that they are determined to tackle cases of noise pollution in their vicinity.

They are also carrying out measures to raise people’s awareness of the issue.
