Suspect arrested for robbing convenience store with homemade gun in Ho Chi Minh City

Police officers have arrested the suspect who robbed a convenience store with a homemade gun in Ho Chi Minh City as he was hiding in neighboring Dong Nai Province.

Officers under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Public Security, in coordination with their counterparts in Dong Nai Province, captured Th., 25, in Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai early on Monday morning, a source close to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper confirmed.

Th. was then taken back to Ho Chi Minh City to facilitate the investigation.

At the police station, Th. admitted to having robbed a convenience store on Ha Dac Street in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City with a homemade gun.

Preliminary information showed that the robbery took place at around 10:00 am on Sunday.

Th., who was wearing a crash helmet and face mask to cover his identity, arrived at the convenience store on a motorcycle.

He then walked into the venue and threatened the staff with his homemade gun, forcing them to give him money.

After taking the cash, the robber ran away on his motorbike.

The suspect took a few million dong (VND1 million = US$42.5), Phap Luat Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh (Ho Chi Minh City Law) newspaper reported.

At the scene, police found a metal pellet suspected to be a lead bullet.
