Chinese authorities handed over 110 Vietnamese border jumpers, including one wanted suspect, to Vietnam on Wednesday.

The Border Guard Command in northern Lao Cai Province confirmed on Wednesday evening it had received 110 Vietnamese citizens from their counterparts in China’s Hekou District.

The citizens were handed over at Lao Cai International Border Gate.

They include 69 men and 41 women aged 19 to 42 and hailing from 17 provinces across Vietnam.

Among them, 29-year-old Vu Cong Hai from northern Thai Binh Province was previously wanted for gambling.

Hai fled Vietnam to China in April 2017.

Many of the citizens had worked in China since 2016 and were unable to present valid documents during the inspection of Chinese authorities.

They were thus detained and later handed over to Vietnamese authorities.

The border guard unit in Lao Cai has conducted necessary verification and collected statements from these citizens, before transferring them to relevant authorities in accordance with the law.
